Kevin Bacon has begun directing Loverboy, an adaptation of the Victoria Redel novel that stars Blair Brown, Matt Dillon, Oliver Platt, Campbell Scott, Kyra Sedgwick and Marisa Tomei.
Bacon, who also acts in the film, is producing with Sedgwick, through their Mixed Breed Films banner, with Danny Bigel and Michael Mailer of Bigel/Mailer Films.
Bacon previously directed Sedgwick in the Showtime film Losing Chase, making Loverboy the second project for the husband and wife.
She plays a mother who was so neglected as a child that she has become a smothering influence on her son, a role played by 7-year-old Dominic Scott Kay (Minority Report). Bacon and Tomei play the woman's parents, seen in flashback. She is courted by a man (Dillon) who shapes up as a father figure to the boy.
